Assignment 1: Interesting Samples 6

These are perhaps more formal approaches but relevant for the context of the phrases/quotes used. Do hope this provides you with a wide range of possibilities in your Assignment.

Assignment 1: Interesting Samples 5

Assignment 1: Interesting Samples 4

Assignment 1: Interesting Samples 3

Observe how these compositions are purely made from type. See how they play with the character anatomy of the various types chosen. Some extended the Stem of the typeface, some played with the Apex and Vertex. See also how they play with repetition in a beautiful way. Overlapping in just the accurate proportions. Observe too on how colours are applied. Tones explored.

You are encouraged to experiment with things like this.

Assignment 1: Interesting Samples 2

Assignment 1: Interesting Samples

Here are some interesting samples on how different artists/designers played with type, space and overall compositions. I do hope they can provide you guys with some inspiration in your brainstorming and ideas. Most of your compositions thus far can still be improved, in terms of how you experiment with the typeface itself, foreground and background. Observe how they use the type itself to create different forms of emotions, how they adjust kernings, spacing, cropping, exaggeration of type, overlapping, contrast, balance, unity to help in their compositions.

Assignment 1: Progress/ Workshop Materials

Dear students,

With regards to your Assignment 1 on the movie one liner, do hope you guys are already trying it out. As mentioned in class, this is just a short reminder that I'd be hoping to see at least 2-3 tryouts for each composition (B/W and Colour).

Save it in your Pen Drive in JPEG format as I believe Lecture Room 1 does not have Adobe Illustrator.

Thanks and see you all.

p/s: Also do remember to bring these materials to class tomorrow for your workshop.

(1) A3 Art block / A3 Layout Pad
(2) Any mark making materials (reeds, pencil, markers, colour pens, brushes, tissue, sponges, scalpels, stones, leafs, wood branches)
(3) Black poster colour + Palette + Rags/Cloths
